Desc: The Story of Shadow & Light: Giving Voice to an Alzheimer's Story: Directed by Ryan Welch. Memory loss causes a heart-wrenching transition from a former self to a changed individual. This documentary follows Oregon composer Joan Szymko's journey of learning about Alzheimers with fresh eyes. Having very little experience with the disease, she was both emotionally and creatively impacted by the intimate narratives regarding memory loss. Szymko met with patients, families and caregivers, over the course of a year in order to translate the stories she'd collected into music. This film follows Szymko and Artistic Director and Conductor, Diane Retallack, along this creative journey to debut this groundbreaking work, until its world premiere at Beall Concert Hall in April 2016.
